The TV Academy provides comprehensive production training in scripted and unscripted entertainment, coupled with hands-on experience within active international productions. There are two courses which are mostly the same, covering every aspect of production and the business of television, including all genres across both Non-Scripted Entertainment and Scripted, the difference being that one will focus more on Entertainment television, and one will focus more on Drama. Starting intake for the Entertainment streams are in May and October 2024, each session accommodates 20 students, offering a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills taught by globally renowned industry experts.
Additionally, the academy reserves 20 spots for students interested in the drama stream, where they will acquire the necessary skills to produce high-quality international drama television. This unique opportunity not only equips students with industry-standard expertise but also immerses them in real-world productions, fostering a dynamic learning environment. Fiction Scripted Stream (Drama)
This stream will explore fiction genres, particularly focusing on drama forms such as telenovelas, soaps, features, mini-series, and limited series, covering various genres like romantic comedy, science fiction, comedy, tragedy, horror, and melodrama
Non-Scripted Stream
This stream will delve into non-scripted programming, encompassing various genres like quiz shows, talent shows, reality shows, dating shows, and game shows, focusing on captured reality or actuality.
In this stream we will focus on various genres within the broad category of fiction. We will examine the various forms that drama is delivered to, for example: Telenovela, soap, feature and mini-series or limited series.
The course will develop an understanding of drama genres including amongst others: romantic comedy, science fiction, comedy, tragedy, horror and melodrama. The course will then focus on developing an understanding of the variety of roles that are required to produce a drama as well as running courses to develop capacity within the major drama production departments for example: story writing, cinematography and directing.
In this stream we will focus on what is sometimes referred to as non-scripted programming or factual entertainment programming. The content is usually captured reality or actuality and is delivered within many different genre forms including amongst others: Game shows like Family Feud, Talent shows like America’s Got Talent , Reality shows such as Big Brother or Real Housewives, and Dating shows like The Bachelor.
No. You can only attend one course a year, however, you may apply for a different course next year.
You can't present it to someone on this platform, however, all our courses teach the business of television where you would get the skills and strategy to know how to package and pitch your show. In addition to the courses, some of the masterclasses will teach unique aspects of this process so sign up to be notified about when these would take place.
Unfortunately not. These courses are for Botswana citizens only.
You must be older than 18, and there is no upper age limit.
